This is a beginning level course covering intaglio, monoprint, monotype and
relief (linocut) techniques including plate and block development, inking and
printing in both monochromatic and multicolor images.

Six-week course begins Sept. 8. Basic painting techniques will be taught
step-by-step through demos. Students will be taught underpainting, impressionism
and other expressive styles of painting. Repeat students are welcome to work
independently with instructor’s help. Students will be introduced to acrylic
mediums; explore these fast-drying paints that can be used straight from the
tube like oils or thinned and used like watercolors, with lots of play in
between.

from the nude or partially draped model. Emphasis will be placed on finding
accuracy in the form, recognizing warm and cool temperatures in flesh tones,
looking for lost edges and merging values. Learn how different colored cloth
affects skin tone. We will be working on short gesture studies in oil as well as
longer half day paintings; the last day of class will feature one pose held for
the day.

Photo Memory Quilts

Students will use family photos, memorabilia and keepsakes to
develop stories for their own art quilts. Transfer photos,
drawings, and writings directly to fabric using inkjet transfer.
Learn Lauren’s quick, no piecing method to construct your own
art quilts. Bring old letters, family photos, fabric, threads,
and any artifacts you would like to incorporate into your quilt
and personalize your family’s future heirloom.

Quilt maker Lauren Austin tells thought-provoking stories with
her quilts which sew together heirloom photographs with fabrics
to create textural “stories” that share her history. Themes
relating to matters of justice grew out of her experience as a
U.S. diplomat to South America, and her background as civil
rights lawyer and associate law professor.

Machine Quilt Drawing

machine enhances the design of even the simplest quilt pattern.

Experimental Acrylic

Experiment with the possibilities offered working with new
materials and techniques using fluid and tube acrylics on paper,
glass, and wood. Imagery from realistic to abstract will be
enhanced by layering, watercolor crayons, stencils, stamps,
powdered charcoal and textured materials. Demonstrations and
critiques help each to find their unique voice.

In addition to teaching painting at Crealdé, Donne Bitner
maintains a studio at McRae Art Studio in Winter Park. Her work

This fun, intensive workshop is a chance for you to find
expressive ways with watercolor, especially with figures.
Working from live models, the point will not be anatomy or color
accuracy, but exploring ways to make your paintings more
