Basic Concepts
covers photography essentials such as exposure systems,
metering systems and composition as it applies to different
types of photographic situations.
This is a great
opportunity to improve your photography one day at a time.
The workshops explore your specific camera to introduce
you to menus, file formats, ISO (the digital version of
film-speed) and care of your new digital camera.
Workshop Instructors

Designed to educate students about their specific cameras, these weekly
workshops will provide an overview of menus and usage for better control of your
photographs. Some classes will feature information about
different types of photographic genres such as travel and people photography.
These workshops are offered in conjunction with Colonial Photo & Hobby. You may
register there or at Crealdé.

The Holga Camera with Perry Dilbeck

Learn how to take fine art images using a simple plastic
camera. Explore the history of the Holga camera and examine the
various bodies of work created with this toy. The technical
aspects of film loading, focusing, exposing, light leak
prevention, and other special applications will be covered.
Participants will shoot on location, bring film back for
processing and the results will be reviewed in class. If
students do not own a “Holga,” cameras will be provided.
Perry Dilbeck has published a book of his Holga work called “The
Last Harvest” and has exhibited widely.
Photo Festival XVI: Day of Workshops

Photo Festival gives you the opportunity to select from five
one-hour workshops on a wide variety of photographic subjects,
such as photographing the landscape, portraiture, hand coloring,
and much more. Also, Southern Photo Technical Services will
provide a free camera check-up and cleaning. All tuition from
Photo Festival XVI will go to benefit the Photography
Department.
Rick Lang, Crealde’s Director of Photography, has over 20 years
experience as a professional photographer with an extensive
exhibition and awards record.
Jon Manchester, Senior Faculty member, has extensive experience
in teaching both traditional and historic photographic processes
as well as digital techniques.
The History of Photography and 19th Century Processes

On Friday night, students will learn about the history of
19th century processes as it applied to the aesthetics of the
period. On Saturday you will have the opportunity to work with
two 19th century photographic processes such as Cyanotypes and
Van Dykes prints. Students should bring two digital images to
print.
How to Make Holiday Photo Cards
with Jon Manchester & Rick Lang

In the morning you will have the opportunity to take family
portraits to be used in the making of holiday cards. In the
afternoon, students will adjust their images in preparation for
printing as cards at the local camera shop or drug store.

New Mexico provides some of our country’s most unique and
diverse landscape in scenery, people, history and culture. The
seven day tour includes visits to Santa Fe, Taos, Indian

large numbers of visitors. During this unique adventure trip

Basic lighting and posing techniques and the use of flash and
natural light are covered. Focus is on defining the photographic

available light, bounce flash, use of TTL metering system, and

different techniques of creating masterful still life images in

Four-week class begins December 2. Learn to make successful
photos in low-light situations. ISO speed, timed exposures, and
metering low-light areas are covered. Creative use of white
balance will also be covered, along with issues of noise

PH252 New! Matting and Framing Photos and 2-D Art

Four week class starts August 27. In this class students will
learn the basics of matting and framing photographs and other
works on paper. Students will learn about mat board choices,
various mounting techniques, and how to properly cut a window
mat to prepare work to be framed. The class will also include
instruction on how to install matted work into a metal or wood
frame and the pros and cons of each. Prereq: Photo II or similar
experience.

Intermediate to advanced level. Learn the history and techniques
of the classic documentary photographic style, photographing our
daily surroundings, showing a mirror to the present and creating
an important record for the future. The class will develop an on
site documentary in the historic city of Winter Garden, learn
about project development and implementation, how to establish
community contacts, caption writing and finishing a body of work
for display.

This course will take place at locations throughout central
Florida. We will meet at Crealdé during the first class to
discuss locations and necessary equipment. The course will focus
primarily on the fundamentals of taking a fine art portrait on
location. Students will work with battery powered strobe
lighting, umbrellas, camera flashes, reflectors, and natural
lighting. The course will also explore the aesthetics involved
in composing an image on location and using the environment to
enhance the portrait. Prereq: Basic Portraiture or similar exp.
