Photo Memory Quilts
with Lauren Austin, October 2: 9:00–4:00.

Students will use family photos, memorabilia and keepsakes to
develop stories for their own art quilts. Transfer photos,
drawings, and writings directly to fabric using inkjet transfer.
Learn Lauren’s quick, no piecing method to construct your own
art quilts. Bring old letters, family photos, fabric, threads,
and any artifacts you would like to incorporate into your quilt
and personalize your family’s future heirloom.

Quilt maker Lauren Austin tells thought-provoking stories with
her quilts which sew together heirloom photographs with fabrics
to create textural “stories” that share her history. Themes
relating to matters of justice grew out of her experience as a
U.S. diplomat to South America, and her background as civil
rights lawyer and associate law professor.

Machine Quilt Drawing

Drawing scenes, faces, figures and patterns with the sewing
machine enhances the design of even the simplest quilt pattern.
Learn techniques of stress-free machine quilting to embellish
quilts. We will practice with a variety of fabrics and battings,
design our own pictures and have fun.

Making Art Your Business

and inspiration for artists to make art their business. Topics range from
gallery representation to marketing and promotion.

Experimental Acrylic
with Donne Bitner, Oct. 15–17: 9:00–4:00.

Experiment with the possibilities offered working with new
materials and techniques using fluid and tube acrylics on paper,
glass, and wood. Imagery from realistic to abstract will be
enhanced by layering, watercolor crayons, stencils, stamps,
powdered charcoal and textured materials. Demonstrations and
critiques help each to find their unique voice.

In addition to teaching painting at Crealdé, Donne Bitner
maintains a studio at McRae Art Studio in Winter Park. Her work
is exhibited in museum shows and art festivals throughout the
United States.

Expressive Figures in Watercolor
with Ken Austin, Oct. 22–24: 10:00–5:00.

This fun, intensive workshop is a chance for you to find
expressive ways with watercolor, especially with figures.
Working from live models, the point will not be anatomy or color
accuracy, but exploring ways to make your paintings more
expresive, lively, and interesting. All models will be clothed.

Perspective for Artists

Learn how to make things appear to recede into the distance,
have depth and volume, and relate to any spatial environment.
Basic drawing skills and an open mind are the only requirements.

Society, and has been a watercolor teacher for 16 years. His
paintings have won 5 major awards in the last 7 years, and are
in private and corporate collections across the U.S.

Photography Workshops
The Holga Camera with Perry Dilbeck

Learn how to take fine art images using a simple plastic
camera. Explore the history of the Holga camera and examine the
various bodies of work created with this toy. The technical
aspects of film loading, focusing, exposing, light leak
prevention, and other special applications will be covered.
Participants will shoot on location, bring film back for
processing and the results will be reviewed in class. If
students do not own a “Holga,” cameras will be provided.
Perry Dilbeck has published a book of his Holga work called “The
Last Harvest” and has exhibited widely.
