A two-day hands-on workshop exploring the historical wetplate collodion process. During the workshop, Kodak Brownie cameras will be provided for each students’ use. A limited number of Large Format Cameras will be available during the second day. Students will create wetplates on both black adonized aluminum (Alumitypes) and clear glass (Ambrotypes). Students will learn basic wetplate chemistry, how to prepare & clean glass plates, how to pour a plate, and how to sensitize, expose, develop, fix, and finish the plates.
Required Supplies
All of the chemistry, plates, and safety equipment are included in the workshop cost. Lunch provided on Saturday; Coffee and Bagels provided on Sunday

Sunday October 16th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM: Make your own wetplates and silver contact prints from your glass negatives (Optional)

Thomas Raupach
The workshop will be taught by Thomas Raupach, an award-winning artist and former Fellowship Student and Studio Artist and Crealde School of Art. Thomas has a keen interest in historical photographic processes including Wetplate, Platinum/Palladium, and Carbon Printing. Thomas was introduced to the Wetplate process in 2006, while attending a 5-day workshop with John Coffer in upstate New York.
