Portrait Painting

Working directly from a live model, students establish proportions and bone structure, using either oils or acrylics. Students concentrate on drawing, value, and color to develop their paintings, with emphasis placed on achieving a likeness. Tuition includes model fees. Prerequisites: Intro to Oils, Fundamentals of Color, Portrait Drawing or similar experience.

Don Sondag

Don received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design in 1986. He studied painting and portraiture at the National Academy of Design Student League in New York City in 1995 and 1996.

Don joined Crealde’s faculty in the early 1990s. He currently has a studio at McRae Art Studios in Winter Park and has taught portraiture and painting at Crealdé, Seminole Community College, Walt Disney Imaginary Studios, and Walt Disney Feature Animation.

His portrait commissions include community leaders Frank Hubbard (Hubbard Construction), Howard Phillips (Dr. Phillips Foundation), and Richard Kessler (Kessler Enterprises). Don was also chosen as the 2000 Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival poster artist.
