Vibrant Vision: African Diaspora and African American ArtistsLocation: Alice and William Jenkins Gallery
Works from the Jonathan Green and Richard Weedman Collection
For the past 38 years Jonathan Green and Richard Weedman have had the privilege of incorporating into their fine art collection paintings, sculptures, and prints from outstanding African Diaspora and African American Artists into their international art collection titled Vibrant Vision. With few exceptions, the collection reflects the themes of work, love, belonging and spirituality. With outstanding artists such as Clementine Hunter, Elizabeth Catlett, Hughie Lee-Smith, Hale Woodruff, Romare Howard Bearden and more, these works of art have a particular focus on pieces created from the late 1930’s (the period of the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration) to the present throughout the Caribbean and America.
The opening events will be held Friday, September 15, beginning with a 7 – 9 PM reception at the Crealdé main campus, including a brief gallery talk by the curators and continuing at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center from 8 – 10 PM with a reception featuring live music and African dance.
