Humans have been firing clay for over 20,000 years, leaving artifacts that provide us glimpses into ancient times and ways. From Mesopotamia to Japan, from the shores of Lake Titicaca to the slopes of Mt. Olympus, clay vessels and figures, tiles and tablets, preserve and suggest those long ago days. Let’s build on that clay legacy by creating pots which harken back to ancient times and yet look to the future.

Required Supplies

Purchase clay at first class by cash, check, or Venmo - $25 (checks payable to Crealdé School of Art; Venmo code is in Ceramics studio).

Special Notes

Suitable for all levels.

Instructor

Frances Elder

Upon her retirement in 2016, Frances felt it was time for her to delve into a lifelong dream which was pottery. She joined the city of Orlando Pottery Studio as a member and quickly became addicted to doing pottery and spent 10 to 12 hours a day there learning and taking all the classes she could as well as private instruction. Frances has a background in stained glass and mosaic art work and felt that clay work was a natural progression for her. Teaching adults and children has allowed her to follow her true passions – the people and the art of pottery. She believes we all have something to learn from each other and there are so many talented people out there to share with.
