***This Two-Day Workshop meets Saturday, March 1 and Sunday March 2.***

Wish your paintings popped from across the room? Come learn how. Through short demonstrations and discussion, followed by plenty of one-on-one instruction – you can learn to make your paintings sing with light, depth and movement in this all from life class with a special emphasis on flowers. Gorgeous flowers and still life items will be provided for full on inspiration and visual excitement as we explore and learn through value, color, edges and composition. Prerequisites: PD103 and PD157 or similar experience

Required Supplies

SUPPLY LIST FOR STACY BARTER’S OIL PAINTING CLASS
BRUSHES
One large 1 to 2 inch inexpensive flat brush for color washes and quick background work.
Flats or Filberts (bristle): #3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, (Several in a variety of sizes, more of the 4, 5, 6 sizes)
Example: Robert Simmons brand for simple hog bristle which are all you need
YOU ARE WELCOME TO BRING WHATEVER YOU LIKE, however make sure they are NOT all small
in width and the bristles are pliable and not stiff with old paint or badly frayed
PALETTE KNIFE
PAINTS
AVOID STUDENT GRADE PAINT OR HUES IF POSSIBLE
(I use Rembrandt brand or Windsor and Newton Artists’ Oil Colour, but bring whatever brand you like)
Cadmium Yellow Light or Cadmium yellow pale
Cadmium Yellow Deep
Cadmium Red Light or Cadmium Red in Windsor and Newton Artists’ Oil Colour
Transparent Oxide Red or burnt sienna
Transparent Oxide Brown
Yellow Ochre
French Ultramarine Blue Deep
Cerulean Blue
Titanium White
Permanent Rose
Alizarin Crimson
Viridian Green
Green Gold (Windsor and Newton)

Ivory Black (optional)
Cadmium Lemon Yellow (optional)
Cadmium Orange (optional)

Odorless Turpenoid ONLY like Gamsol

MEDIUM SUGGESTION
I just use my Gamsol or odorless Turp for thinning– no medium. NO STRONG SMELLING MEDIUM PLEASE.

PALETTE SUGGESTION
Plexiglass or glass gives the nicest slick surface. Opaque and medium grey tone.
Or whatever palette you prefer. I don’t suggest anything white. It is too hard to judge values on it.

PAPER TOWELS PAINTING SURFACE
Linen or Cotton Canvas or masonite either oil primed, gesso or acrylic paint primed.
SIZES: bring a RANGE of sizes: 8 x 10, 9 x 12, 11 x 14, 12 x 16 up to 16 x 20 at the largest.
I find it best to bring in a variety of sizes so you can choose one that best fits your set up or subject.
Please no perfume or scented products.

Stacy Barter

Stacy Barter’s Oil Paintings depict her intense fascination with light and atmosphere. She is constantly striving to capture depth and dimension in her oil paintings, along with accuracy and light. Working from life, whether it’s outside painting a landscape or in studio, painting fresh flowers or working with a model is her true passion. In her 25 years as a full-time professional artist, Stacy has won many top awards in some of the most prestigious juried exhibitions in the country and her work is included in many private and public collections.  Stacy teaches workshops throughout the country and internationally, and is a senior faculty member at Crealdé School of Art.  Her own learning, growth and development are of utmost importance to her as well, and she seeks out opportunities to study with master painters that she holds in high regard.  In addition to maintaining a presence in galleries throughout the country, Barter has exhibited in many national exhibitions as a member of the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast, Oil Painters of America, The Portrait Society of America, The Impressionists Society of America and The National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, winning numerous awards in the process.
