Learn to paint florals in still life with soft pastels. The workshop will focus on the structure of flowers in three dimensions and pastel painting techniques. The morning demonstration will cover the pastel painting process followed by independent painting. The afternoon will include continued painting practice with suggestions and feedback.
Required Supplies
Pastels:
Approximately 120 soft pastels of various softness (hard, medium, and soft), color, and value.
The Dick Blick brand ½ stick set of 60 or 120 soft pastels is a good choice for beginners.
Other recommended pastels brands and sets:
Rembrandt - hard
Richeson - medium
Terry Ludwig - soft
Other soft brands - Sennelier, Art Spectrum, Unison, Townsend.
Paper:
Pre-toned sanded pastel paper of your choice. No white paper. Size 11 x 14 to 16 x 20 recommended.
U-Art - 500 or 600 sanded pastel paper in a warm neutral tone is a good option
Standing easels are available in the studio. Please bring a tabletop easel if that is your preference.
