Hannibal Square Heritage Center Manager

Position Summary
Crealdé School of Art seeks a dedicated and community-focused individual to serve as the Hannibal Square Heritage Center Manager. This leadership role is central to advancing the mission of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center (HSHC), which celebrates the cultural heritage of West Winter Park and African American communities. As a key member of the Crealdé team, the manager collaborates with staff, volunteers, and community partners to create engaging experiences for visitors and contribute to meaningful cultural programming. Reporting directly to the Executive Director/CEO, this role requires coordinating teams, fostering partnerships, and managing programming with a focus on cultural preservation and community engagement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Communication and Presentation Skills: Exceptional ability to engage diverse audiences and effectively convey information.

  • Team and Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative approach with a service-oriented mindset.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with social media platforms, and knowledge of project management tools.
  • Commitment to Heritage: Dedication to preserving and celebrating African American heritage, with knowledge and passion for the history of West Winter Park.
  • Additional Considerations:
    • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as history, arts administration, cultural studies, or nonprofit management, is a plus but not required.
    • Experience in nonprofit or cultural organization management is a plus.
    • Familiarity with grant reporting, event planning, or fundraising is beneficial but not required.
    • Creativity and enthusiasm for promoting cultural initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Visitor Engagement (During Opening Hours)

  • Serve as the lead docent, welcoming visitors and providing engaging tours.
  • Share the history of Hannibal Square, the mission of the HSHC, and details about exhibitions and Crealdé School of Art.
  • Assist patrons with special needs to ensure accessibility.
  • Promote Friends of the Heritage Center memberships and maintain positive contributor relationships.

Program and Event Management

  • Coordinate and manage events, including exhibition openings and the annual Juneteenth celebration.
  • Work with the Executive Director and HSHC historians to plan and schedule programming.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers for docent roles, events, and tours; host an annual volunteer appreciation luncheon.

Advisory Committee for the Heritage Center

  • Plan, organize, and co-host quarterly Advisory Committee for the Heritage Center meetings (virtual or in-person).
  • Gather input from committee members to guide programming, outreach, and operational decisions.

Community and Partner Engagement

  • Foster partnerships with museums, nonprofits, and tourism organizations, such as Visit Orlando, to promote shared cultural initiatives and expand visibility.
  • Promote and coordinate the “What Heritage Means to Me” field trip program for middle schoolers in partnership with the Young Artist Program Manager.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Work creatively with the Marketing Coordinator to develop engaging content that promotes HSHC’s mission and initiatives.
  • Provide updates for the HSHC website, Crealdé website, and weekly newsletter.
  • Ensure marketing materials are current, professionally displayed, and distributed to key cultural and tourism partners.
  • Actively promote HSHC to bus tour companies and other groups across Florida.

Administrative Duties

  • Provide monthly attendance and program data to meet grant requirements, support compliance reporting, and assist in identifying funding opportunities.
  • Notify the Executive Director and obtain approval for all community partnerships with the Hannibal Square Heritage Center
  • Collect patron surveys and use data to evaluate and enhance programming.
  • Maintain and share visitor email lists with the Marketing Coordinator to support Crealdé newsletters.
  • Notify the Facility Manager of any facility or maintenance needs.

Compensation and Hours

  • Schedule: 32 hours per week, including 21 hours during HSHC opening hours and 11 hours for administrative work, planning meetings, and special events. Regular hours: Tuesday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Friday, 12 pm–5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Additional hours require preapproval by the Executive Director.
  • Benefits: Paid vacation, monthly health care stipend, holidays, and one free art class per term. Requests for more than two consecutive days of vacation must be submitted at least 30 days in advance.
  • Hourly Rate: $23 per hour
