The magical art of Flow or Pour Art is pure fun! We will be experimenting with vibrant and bold colors of acrylic paint, on a variety of mediums, materials and surfaces. You can’t go wrong! Try your hand at a dirty pour, flip cup, or puddle pour, and put these fundamental techniques into action, creating one-of-a-kind paintings that will mesmerize your friends and family!
Achieving Creative Color with Transparent Watercolors
Why are my paintings dull? Should I paint on wet or dry paper? Use transparent pigment to learn how to mix colors to achieve luminosity, spontaneity, and sparkle in your paintings. Color mixing and a variety of WOW (wet-on-wet) and dry paper techniques will be explored. There will be demonstrations for every concept discussed in this class. Be prepared to paint!

Students will learn basic techniques of the alla prima (direct) method of applying oil paint. In addition to paint application and brushwork, students will learn how to mix color using a split-primary palette. Working from still life setups, students will complete one study each week to explore techniques for rendering glass, ceramic, metal, and organic objects. Instruction will focus on teaching students to see and copy value and intensity changes in color. There will be demonstrations of techniques, along with discussions about methods, materials and supplies used in oil painting. Supply list will be emailed to students upon registration. Skill level: Beginning
Boats, Birds & Waterways in Oil
Note: Class begins on April 18
Working from your personal photo references, explore techniques of painting landscape scenes which include ocean, river, lake or marsh views, along with boats, wading birds or shorebirds common to Florida’s waterways. This is an opportunity to work in the direct oil painting method (alla prima), and/or the indirect method of applying oil paint in layers to build more structured and detailed paintings. Some aspects of composition and design in landscape painting will be covered. We will use the three-value sketch to determine the best design for your paintings, possibly combining elements from different photo references. Demonstrations will cover techniques for painting reflections in water, variations in foliage, achieving distance/depth with value and temperature changes, and manipulating edges.
Prerequisites are Oil Painting I and Drawing I, or equivalent experience

There will be longer sustained poses held by the model and this will offer students the opportunity to conceptualize the forms that make up the figure. While working through color space, we will create a convincing representation of our model by capturing the gesture, structure and basic anatomy. There will be discussions on drawing, color theory, palette organization and paint application through demonstration and practice.
Tuition includes model fees. Prerequisites: Intro to Oils, Fundamentals of Color, Portrait Drawing or similar experience.

Urban Sketching: Tips and Techniques
Learn to sketch from subject to the environment. Classroom sessions will focus on sketching clothed models and progress towards sketching the model and classroom environment. Learn how to incorporate storytelling into your sketches in our location sessions. These trips to local venues will challenge you to use your sketchbook the way a photojournalist uses a camera. The six-week goal is to produce finished sketches using pencil, pen, and watercolor within two hours. Skill level: Intermediate
