Explore the potters wheel and create animated pots by altering thrown forms beyond round. Dart, pleat, fold and facet! Just because it’s made on a wheel doesn’t mean it has to be round. Skill level: Beginner
Work with found objects creating multi-media 3D forms. Gluing, riveting, bolting, mold making, and casting will be used to connect dissimilar materials.
Black-and-White Film I: Introduction to the Darkroom
Explore the timeless beauty of traditional, film-based black-and-white photography, including image selection, exposure and processing your own film and prints in Crealdé’s wet darkroom. This introductory course will cover basic camera controls and formats, film types, hands-on field trips, weekly assignments, print reviews and lots of fun time in the darkroom. Designed for students new to film photography and photographers who want to reconnect with this creative art form. Tuition includes lab fee, chemistry, and free loaner cameras. Bird Photography: Lessons and Field Trips
** This class will be presented as a hybrid learning opportunity, with classroom instruction via Zoom and on-location field trips**
Catch the shot and the passion for bird photography! Explore techniques on how to get as close as possible to the bird’s environment while capturing that prize photograph. Practice these techniques during instructor-led field trips with lifelong birder and bird photographer, Milton Heiberg. Prerequisite: Introduction to Digital Photography PH147 or similar experience and a 300mm lens (if you are planning to purchase please wait until after the first class). Skill level: Intermediate
In this class students learn how to make outstanding photographs that reveal the essential qualities of the built environment — residential, commercial, monumental, historic, and contemporary — and how to photograph interiors like a pro. The class covers lighting techniques, from available light to multiple and mixed lighting, and image postproduction, including multiple exposure, and high dynamic range processing so that students realize their vision in final images. Mindful Painting – The Still Life
We will draw and paint a still life utilizing some specific techniques first practiced by Painters of the 17th through 19th centuries. Breaking down this process step by step we begin by developing a precise linear drawing. Next we proceed to underpainting, then finishing with our main color pass and glazing. With this deliberate process and mindful application of each brushstroke, we will produce a sculpturally believable painting that glows.

Continuing Sculpture Studies (Tues PM)
Intermediate and advanced students are assisted with ideas related to their personal projects. Problem-solving and discovering new materials and techniques will be a part of each class. Bronze casting and welding will be offered with the approval of the instructor. Skill level: Intermediate
Introduction to Bronze Casting
Create wax sculptures that will be cast in bronze. Each student will learn how to prepare the wax form for casting and the ceramic shell mold- making process. David uses the latest mold-making materials available and students will be able to witness a bronze pour at the end of the class. The cost includes the casting of one five pound bronze with the option to purchase additional material for large works. Skill level: All

The main focus of this class is to work on brush techniques and use transparent pigments to create luminosity in your paintings. Skill level: Intermediate

It's the season for the holidays and food! Let's make dishes for eating. Bowls for ice cream, platters for cookies, and cups for cocoa! Use simple pinching and slab techniques, fire, and finish with food safe glazes.
A design problem is given for the term, emphasizing one or two design elements in particular. Discussions about design and the finished pieces are a part of each class. If a base for the piece is needed, that becomes part of the discussion as well. Some hand-building skills are required. Skill level: Intermediate

Intro to Jewelry Design and Fabrication
Learn the concepts for basic and advanced jewelry fabrication. Become familiar with the essential silversmithing skills and methods of cutting, forging, embossing, and all the fundamentals of soldering techniques. Intro to Silversmithing Jewelry
Experience the fundamental processes of cutting, forging, metal texturing, hammering, sawing and soldering silver. The course includes: bezel stone setting for cabochon gemstones, polishing techniques and combining sterling silver sheet metal with fine silver wire, etc. Specific projects, planned by the instructor, will focus on how to make silver rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.

In each class, students will paint from direct observation a new still-life arrangement of fresh-cut flowers, small fruits or vegetables, and a bowl. the instructor will do a brief demo and discuss composition, color, light, and shadows, edges, and other aspects of good painting, working with each student offering suggestions for improvement. The instructor will supply flowers, fruit, and other still-life objects. Open to students with intermediate experience using oils, acrylics, or pastels.
Create heads and figures of your favorite animals -real or imagined! Learn techniques for making with clay, wire, wood and more as you sculpt lively figures in 3-D. Instructor will guide each student in the use of special sculpting tools to create animation, texture and movement. All tools and materials will be provided.
Advanced Wheel for Teens (ages 13-17)
Expand your skills on the potters' wheel as you stretch and manipulate the clay to alter forms and create lids, spouts, and more. Create your own pottery collection to give and to treasure. Prerequisite: Previous wheel experience.

There will also be an experience to painting en plein air on the beautiful campus. Receive one-on-one attention with demonstrations throughout the term. Students will learn basic techniques of the alla prima (direct) method of applying oil paint. In addition to paint application and brushwork, students will learn how to mix color using a split-primary palette. Working from still life setups, students will complete one study each week to explore techniques for rendering glass, ceramic, metal, and organic objects. Instruction will focus on teaching students to see and copy value and intensity changes in color. There will be demonstrations of techniques, along with discussions about methods, materials and supplies used in oil painting. Supply list will be emailed to students upon registration. Learn to use your sketchbook as a visual diary, recording every day people, places, and events. After the first session in the Crealde classroom we will immediately move towards sketching at various venues around Central Florida. You will learn how to incorporate storytelling into your sketches in our location sessions. Your sketchbook will be used the way a photojournalist uses a camera. When you sit still and sketch in this fast paced world some drama unfolds. The goal is to catch that drama one sketch at a time. the six-week goal is to produce finished sketches in each class using pencil, pen, and watercolor within two hours.
Capture to Print: Roadside Photography (Digital)
Discover the beauty of photographing the Cultural Landscape during this two-day workshop. During our capture session, you will learn how to create meaningful imagery that incorporates man-made elements during our day-long photography outing. We will return Sunday to review images and learn to use the school's print lab to make archival prints while exploring paper types, color space, and printing profiles. Each student should expect to produce three color or black-and-white prints (up to 13" x 19") by the end of our workshop. Let's make a book together! In this workshop you'll learn how to bind a book using a long stitch. You will choose between cork fabric and vegan leather for the cover, and we'll be using beautiful Stonehenge paper ideal for watercolor, printmaking, oil pastels, and more! All materials included.

Join artist Alyssa Foxson and embrace your inner boho goddess, for an all new Macramé Plant Hanger Workshop. Learn all the basic macramé knots needed to make a macramé plant hanger and beyond. All supplies are included and you will leave this workshop with a beautiful boho macramé planter to display your plant babies!

This workshop will provide an introduction into the exciting world of Intaglio (pronounced in-tal-yo meaning “incised”) chemical (actual etching) techniques, and the use of hard ground, soft ground and aquatint. Inking techniques such as simple monochromatic exploration, and color printing examples as a la poupeé and multiple plates are included. Non-chemical technique as drypoint will also be demonstrated along with materials for use. Discussed in this workshop will also be editions, framing, and care of original prints. Participants will be required to bring three small (4” X 6”) drawings on paper such as scrap computer paper (no watercolor paper, heavy drawing paper. Subject matter is the participant’s choice, and can be either realistic, abstract or figurative. Instructor will provide all necessary equipment, materials and chemicals.

It’s an Inside Job: Painting Interior Spaces
*Two Day Workshop meets Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18*
In this two-day workshop, Robert Ross will give instruction on how to paint convincing interior spaces, using the art studio itself as motif and inspiration. Students will learn how to capture a room's shapes and tones. The first hour will involve making several small drawings and studies of the studio. Students will next paint interior views of the studio itself, possibly including fellow students in their paintings. Workshop is open to anyone with intermediate experience using oils, acrylics, pastels, or watercolors.
