Landscape Painting in Oil
Oil painting the landscape with an emphasis on capturing the light, atmosphere and color. Students will work from their own photographs or instructor photos. There may be a chance to incorporate an outdoor session or two dependent on weather and student interest. The process will explore both painting directly and working in several layers of opaque and transparent paint consistencies. Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced
Oil Colors Minimum: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue. For a fuller Palette: Cadmium Red Light, Winsor or Viridian Green, Transparent Oxide Red, Cadmium Yellow Deep and Thalo Blue. Palette: Wooden or Paper or Plastic. Brushes: Hogs Hair Natural Bristle of various sizes from #2 to #8. Filberts and a few smaller Rounds. A painting or palette knife. I will provide some options as well. Odorless Mineral Spirits or Turpentine Vine Charcoal and a medium charcoal pencil Artists Refined Linseed Oil and/or Neo Megilp Paper towels and cotton cloth Spray Fixative (optional) One or canvases or gessoed boards 12 x inch up to 20 x 24 inch. Several of your own photographs that are landscape painting possibilities. I will provide options for you as well.
