Decorate and complete your own clay darbuka drum using traditional techniques and learn to play it. On the final evening, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a vibrant performance and public performance that weaves together clay and music to foster cultural connection, collective identity, and community healing. Though hand-made drum bodies will be created in advance, we will explore various ways to make your own.

Join a generational master in exploring handbuilding techniques passed down through many generations from pre-Columbian times. Be inspired by the Peruvian Chulala bird who, according to tradition, builds its nest with its beak and feet. It is said that this bird taught Ramirez's ancestors the techniques he employs and will share over our two days together. Learn all aspects of formation, traditional engobe decoration and burnishing in this technique-based workshop that will culminate with a pit firing.
Ikebana Pottery: The Japanese Art of Flower Arranging
Learn how to create various forms out of clay specific for this style of flower arrangement. Jesus will demonstrate both hand building and wheel throwing techniques to build these Ikebana containers. Ikebana in the Japanese art of flower arrangement using simple design principles that celebrate space, movement, and form. Participants will make the container the first day of the workshop and on the second day, when the containers have been finished and fired, Jesus will demonstrate the art of Ikebana and participants will make their own arrangements using their finished containers.
