Create variations on historical works or create your own vision in terra cotta clay or stoneware. The works will be fired and colored surface treatments will be suggested and demonstrated.
Introduction to Bronze Casting
Create wax sculptures that will be cast in bronze. Students learn how to prepare the wax form for casting, and the ceramic shell mold-making process. The instructor uses the latest mold-making materials available and students witness a bronze pour at the end of the class. Cost includes the casting of one five-pound bronze with option to purchase additional material for large works. Students are responsible for finishing, polishing and coloring of final castings. Cleaning polishing and finishing the bronze work is not included in the cost of the class.
Whimsical Figures in Terra Cotta
Have a blast with bringing to life a reptile, fish, bird, or any animal with human attributes. This class will teach students how to make whimsical human-like figures with animal characteristics using terra cotta clay.
Exploring Sculpture for Teens (Ages 13-17)
Learn techniques for sculpting using an armature and sculpting tools to create figures real or imagined. Students choose what they want to sculpt from human heads, animals, cartoon figures or original imaginative creations. The sculptures will be 3 dimensional demonstrating animation, texture and movement. Tools and material included.
Continuing Sculpture Studies Wed 7 pm
Intermediate and advanced students are assisted with ideas related to their personal projects. Problem-solving and discovering new materials and techniques will be a part of each class. Bronze casting and welding will be offered with the approval of the instructor.
Create whimsical figures and abstract welded sculptures. Learn basic cutting and arc welding techniques using found objects and mild steel. Students are encouraged to bring objects for their compositions.
Work in clay to create face masks, heads, and figures to be fired in the kiln. Mold-making and casting will be demonstrated as part of the session.

Clean, Polish, and Patina Bronze Art
Discover the range of processes in the finishing of a bronze sculptures. This is an introduction class on how to sandblast, clean and finish your bronzes for display. Demonstrations using materials for grinding and polishing will be a big part of the classroom work. Coloring the metal with patina will be demonstrated and used on student works. Materials include in the cost of the class. Prereq: SC129 or similar exp.

Create functional sculptures for your house and garden. Explore ways of creating large forms easily with affordable materials. Model sculptures by carving, and construction shapes to be covered, cast and poured in cement. Masonry dye and various surface treatments will be demonstrated in the completion of large garden forms.
