Explore the potter’s wheel and create animated pots by altering thrown forms beyond round. Dart, pleat, fold and facet! Just because it’s made on a wheel doesn’t mean it has to be round.
An investigation into the design and function of the ceramic pouring and drinking vessels. Gain handbuilding and wheel throwing skills through the creative exploration, design and construction of different types of functional and abstract forms. We'll explore different types of handles and the ergonomic issues facing utilitarian forms. Though focused on handbuilding skills, there will be some opportunity to combine thrown components.
Create handbuilt home décor items. Explore your own style in the design and decoration of each piece. Emphasis will be placed on surface techniques including wax resist and carving combined with post-firing addition of mixed media like cotton, fiber and wood. Possible projects include wall hangings and ceramic bells.

We will end with a dinner party extravaganza using the serving vessels created in class.

Learn to plan and implement projects for homes and gardens, i.e. backsplashes, indoor/outdoor murals, framed mirrors, wall hangings and garden stepping stones.
Meditation & Mud: Handbuilt Vessels & Sculptures
How do meditation and mud relate to one another? Decompress and feel refreshed for the week ahead. Class will start with a short 5-minute guided meditation with clay. Learn handbuilding, stamp-making and underglaze layering techniques to create a series of vessels. You will leave feeling centered and inspired; ready to greet a new week.
